How does ReferenceVerify verify a reference?
The verdict is not generated by an AI model. Each reference is compared deterministically against open scholarly records, and every result shows where the evidence came from.
- The reference is parsed: authors, year, title, journal, DOI.
- It is searched in open scholarly indexes: Crossref, OpenAlex, PubMed, Europe PMC, DBLP, ERIC, Semantic Scholar, CORE, DataCite, DOAB, the ISSN Portal, TR Dizin, İSAM, SOBIAD, TO-KAT, Google Books and OpenLibrary.
- Metadata is matched: author, year, title and author order are each checked separately.
- The DOI is resolved and checked against the record it actually points to.
- The record is screened against the retraction list.
- The result is shown with its evidence: which index it was found in, which field disagreed.
Verification, not generation
ReferenceVerify does not invent evidence or citations. It checks academic records and shows where the evidence comes from. Verification is evidence-based; the final decision remains with the researcher.
