What is a DOI and why does it matter?

A Digital Object Identifier is a persistent identifier for a publication; it stays the same even if the journal name or URL changes. A correct DOI proves in one step that the source exists and exactly which article it is.

If a DOI does not resolve, is the source definitely fake?

Most likely, with two exceptions: very new records (24–48 hours) and old DOIs a publisher never registered. The tool then searches by title; a strong match means the DOI was mistyped.

How many DOIs can I check at once?

How is a DOI written in a bibliography?

APA 7 and most styles want https://doi.org/10.xxxx/... — no 'doi:' prefix and no access date. The style converter does this automatically.
